Why was this fly so popular and successful for as long as it was? There is no doubt that both the dry and wet versions of the Royal Coachman caught fish and lots of them for many years. My own pet theory, and itis nothing more than that, is not that these flies were "attractors" and fish just found them appetizing for no reason in particular. I think fish took them to be ants.
